Our Sensory Analysis Happy Hour at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 27 will feature three Maibocks in the spirit of the current month and the transition into warmer weather.

As we delve into Maibocks, we will be looking at a German example as the benchmark to compare against a west coast classic and a NJ mainstay (the brewery’s second appearance in as many months).
Hofbräu – Maibock // The Stout For Connoisseurs  – It was a long, long time ago, that the Hofbräu Maibock was brewed for the first time: In 1614 the bottom-fermented beer specialty filled beer steins for the first time. Even today, Munich’s oldest bock beer is still as popular as ever with its full-bodied, malty flavor. The relatively high alcohol content of 7.2% Vol. doesn’t do things half-way – and satisfies, especially honest beer connoisseurs.

Rogue – Dead Guy Ale// In the style of a German Maibock, using our proprietary Pacman yeast, Dead Guy is deep honey in color with a malty aroma and a rich, hearty flavor.

Ramstein – Maibock // Rich Amber bock beer brewed with imported Munich and Pilsner Malts and fermented with a rare lager yeast. This beer has a deep malt character and body with a hint of toffee in the aroma. The noble hops balance the richness of the malts and provide a complex profile that hides the 7% abv.

Both Hofbräu and Rogue are widely distributed so procurement of these two beers will not be corrdinated by the club. Hofbräu is usually available in 500ml single bottle and 11.2oz six-pack formats, while Dead Guy Ale will typically be available in six-packs (can or bottle). Use slack if you want to coordinate with anyone on sharing six-packs with those in your area.

Thanks to Ron, the club has already procured a case of Ramstein’s Maibock. Please use the sign-up sheet here to indicate if you need to coordinate the pickup of this beer, since it’s not as widely distributed.

A Note About Virtual Meetings
Over the past year, we have used both Zoom and Google Meet to host our club meetings, happy hours, and sensory analysis. Most recently the club has been using Goolge Meet, which was being offered for free by Google.

As of March 31, Google stopped offering Meet for free and so the board decided to switch back to using Zoom for all club meetings, as we felt that Zoom provided a better user experience and we had less technical glitches and challenges connecting to Zoom and Meet.

In an effort to make our digital lives as simple as possible, we will be using the same Zoom meeting info for all club functions. This should make keeping track of links and joining events easier and less error prone for our members. We welcome your feedback on your experience so that we can continue to improve the way in which we connect and collaborate together.

The official MASH zoom meeting info for all MASH functions is as follows:
