NJ Highlands Virtual Brewfest features MASH brewers

Join MASH and the NJ Highlands Coalition on Oct. 10 for the 2020 Virtual Highlands Brewfest for games, presentations, and demonstrations about craft beer and environmental conservation.
A handful of MASHers will be helping during the free event and hosting a homebrewing 101 session at 4:30 p.m. and get a glimpse of some members’ setups while Chris J. emcees what is sure to be a hilarious hour.
Beer fest attendees are invited to participate in activities throughout the event: Beer bingo and environmental trivia, learn to make your own beer, find out how to pair beer with food, cooking with beer and more! 
Throughout the event, beer guru’s from the local craft beer scene will be sharing their stories and insights into the world of beer. We’ll hear from John Holl, Steal this Beer podcasterAugie Carton, owner and brewer at Carton BreweryScott Wells from Bolero Snort Brewery, and Karl Weiss of MASH to name just a few.

Enter the event with Morris Area Society of Homebrewers (MASH) Karl Weiss, meet him after he has hiked to one of the most beautiful summits of the NJ Highlands, on the trail he maintains for the NY/NJ Trails Conference, with a beer in hand, of course!

2:00-3:00 – Beer in today’s world, a discussion with no interruptions
Our panelists John Holl and Augie Carton from Steal this Beer will be on hand to lead a spirited discussion about the latest beer news, styles and tips. What do you pair with a classic Italian sub from northern New Jersey? Listen and find out what to match with the things you love with the perfect brew.

3:00-3:30 – Environmental Trivia – Virtual Style
Elliott Ruga, NJ Highlands Coalition hosts a competitive game of Highlands trivia. Can you name the iconic Highlands locations, featured in the timeless NJN video, The Highlands Rediscovers, and answer questions about environmental and Highlands trivia. We have prizes for the winners!

3:30-4:30 – Beer Share – What are you drinking and why is water important to beer?
Have your favorite beverage on hand during this lively beer discussion.
A panel of experts will share their unique perspectives in an interactive experience for anyone who wants to learn
more about their favorite beer and discover new ones. Moderator: Michael DeSimone, SubUrban Kitchen, Panelists: Steve McConnell, SubUrban Kitchen, Charles Bachmann, Cypress Brewing, Tyler Danner & Jon Couch, Two Beerded Guys

4:30-5:30- How to Make Beer? Tips & Tricks for brewing & how to get started at home.
Join members of Morris Area Society of Homebrewers (MASH) who will demonstrate how to make your own beer!
This session features elements that help explain the brewing process, supplies you’ll need, and the science behind making beer! Helping you brew the very best beer with tips and general talk about homebrew. Presented by Rich Cohen, Stu Blake, Ned Gardner, Chris Johnson, and Jimmy Woods.

5:30-6:30 – Make a Meal…..with a Beer!
Are you a beer and food lover? A Virtual Cooking Demo and Beer Pairing with Guest Chef Chris Marley from SubUrban Kitchen. Enjoy a “fun in food” learning experience from the comfort of your home.

6:30-7:30- Guest Brewers Panel – What’s going on in Craft Brewing?
Gathering beer leaders to discuss how brewers are approaching the current circumstances, what’s on tap, and where to find their tasty suds. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to be a part of the sharing of ideas and experiences of these experts! Moderator: Tara Nurin, Independent Journalist on craft beer. Panelists: Scott Wells, Bolero Snort Brewing, Joe Fisher, Man Skirt Brewing and Andrew Aslanian, Fort Nonsense Brewing

7:30-8:00 – Wear your favorite beer t-shirt & Play Craft Beer Bingo
That’s right. Get on your favorite beer t-shirt (or buy a commemorative Virtual Brewfest T-shirt. Play bingo on a fun, easy bingo platform on your device and answer the questions, mark the boxes and call BINGO in the chat for some fun prizes that will be sent to you! Listen as team New Jersey Craft Beer (NJCB) including founder Mike Kivowitz, callout fun beer stuff. If you have the answer on your bingo cards (you get 2) you must check it off, be wearing a beer t-shirt, and cheer the group. The first person to check five boxes in a row wins the game.
